GROUNDWORK

Foal kindergarten - designed specifically with weanlings and yearlings in mind, sessions are shorter and more frequent.

They can be completely untouched or have had prior handling. Tasks completed during training include:

  • Limited round pen work

  • Good to catch

  • Good to halter

  • Lead

  • Tie

  • Pick up feet/stand for farrier

  • Trailer load & haul tied between dividers

  • Basic grooming

  • Touch all over

  • Desensitize to flag, stick & string as well as lead rope

  • Pony from horse back

  • Bathing (weather permitting)

Basic Ground Work - For 2 year olds and older that are anywhere from completely untouched to just needing more respect or further their training on the ground. This is a great prep for starting a horse undersaddle or getting an overall well mannered and respectful equine.

  • Round pen work

- Upward and Downward transitions (Walk/Trot/Canter)

- Roll backs (on the fence)

- Turn and Face (Join Up)

- lunge on a lead

  • Body control/respect

- Turn on Haunches

- Turn on Forehand

- Side-pass (over ground pole)

- Back (Over/through obstacles)

  • Catch/Halter

  • Lead

  • Tie (regular & cross ties)

  • Pick up Feet/stand for farrier

  • Stand to Groom

  • Bath/Clip (weather permitting)

  • Pony out on trails

  • Obstacle course/desensitization

UNDERSADDLE WORK

These are just a basic outline to give an idea as to what we work on and what to expect however we customize our training program (plans/goals) to fit each individual horses needs so they get the most out of everyday they spend with us. Basic Under Saddle Work I - 2 years old and older (never been ridden)

  • Stand to saddle/bridle

  • Stand to mount

  • Flex/horizontal direction (pick up on one rein horse gives head/thought willingly without moving its feet)

  • Rode in arena

  • Rode outside (trails, BLM, etc.)

  • Fundamentals of:

- Forehand turn

- Haunch turn

- Backing

- Sidepassing

  • Smooth upward and downward transitions undersaddle (walk/trot/canter)

Basic Under Saddle Work II - 2 years old and older (w/prior problems or false teaching - this includes horse that buck, rear and/or bolt)

(These horses may take longer to accomplish tasks on this list due to retraining)

  • Stand to saddle/bridle

  • Stand to mount

  • Flex/horizontal direction (pick up on one rein horse gives head/thought willingly without moving its feet)

  • Rode in arena

  • Rode outside (trails, BLM, etc.)

  • Fundamentals of:

- Forehand turn

- Haunch turn

- Backing

- Sidepassing

  • Smooth upward and downward transitions undersaddle (walk/trot/canter)

Legging Up/Conditioning and Fitting - for horses getting back into work, going to a sale, or to be shown.

Depending on the horses age an ability this includes:

  • Lounging W/T/C

  • Riding in arena

  • Riding out of arena

  • Ponying out either with horse or 4 wheeler

This exercise program is tuned to fit each horses individual needs. They are also fed grain/supplements to maintain weight and promote building healthy muscle as they get in better shape.

Intermediate Undersaddle Work I - started or green undersaddle/needs more time and teaching


Intermediate under saddle work covers everything in Basic Under saddle work. We are working on fine tuning what was previously learned along with:

  • Introduction to collection/vertical direction

  • Circles at the walk/trot/canter

  • Throwing a rope/slipping rope

  • Dragging a roping dummy

  • Ponying another horse

  • Introduction to neck reining

Intermediate Undersaddle Work II - Can easily go through everything covered in Basic undersaddle and Intermediate Undersaddle I. For horses that are consistent in riding but need finishing.


Intermediate under saddle work II covers everything in Basic Under saddle work I and Intermediate under saddle work I. Intermediate undersaddle work II's main focus is progressing into a shank bit and refining their maneuvers and neck reining.This is one of the first steps in becoming a finished horse or bridle horse. There is no set task list to accomplish as the goals are to refine and shape your horse to eventually be a finished bridle horse. We will include riding both in and out of the area, hauling to different arenas and trails for a better seasoned horse.


Tune up Undersaddle - already started horses needing a refresher course after time off


Tune ups include things from both Basic undersaddle work and Intermediate undersaddle work such as:

  • Flex/horizontal direction (pick up one rein horse gives head/thought willingly without moving feet)

  • Collection/vertical direction

  • Rode in arena

  • Rode outside (trails, BLM, etc.)

  • Circles at the walk/trot/canter

  • Forehand turn

  • Haunch turn

  • Backing

  • Sidepassing

  • Any holes and or sticky spots will be are main focus

  • We accept any special request from owners
